Dixie Classic Fair- Henry.

We said that we came back to the Triad to see the Goldbergs, but we really came back for the opening weekend of the Dixie Classic Fair.
Mama wants to trade me for Gracie. While I always refuse to pose for a picture, Gracie loves to have her picture taken.

Junie and Audrey were so happy to see each other. June gave Audrey a big tickle.

We stopped for some snacks and snapped a picture of Gracie's cat face paint.
We don't know why, but Juner decided to take a break between the trash cans.

Papa let me pick one ride and I chose the train. Mama was happy a chose a ride that remained earth bound. There were some very scary looking semi trainer rides.

Juner was mad she didn't get to go on the ride, but mama wasn't shelling out another $3.

I love trains!

Always ready for a deal, mama got us two candy apples for $3. I picked blue for Gracie and I.

Little did we know, it was like eating an apple dipped in a lollipop. We licked them for a while until mama bit through the hard candy shell so we could get to the apple. We each only made it through a quarter of the apple before we gave up.

We hit up the animal barns and Audrey was so happy to pet the bunny.

Then mama made us go through the produce barn. They had contests for the best decorated gourds, pumpkins, apples, and potatoes.

We reveled in the award winning bales of hay and tobacco leaves.

Mama liked the "Best Matched" category where you tried to find two identical pieces of produce, but the rest of us were drawn to the giant muskmelons and pumpkins.

This one is the new NC record holder. 1,258 pounds.

We had to stop by the fountain.

Why did we pay money to ride carny rides when all we needed was to play in this fountain for 20 minutes?

When issued a dare to put our heads in the water, you know Grace was the one who did it.

Lucky Miss Becky was out of town this weekend! We probably would have gotten into trouble!

Once Gracie got it, Juner had to give it a try too, but she finally had to be taken away because she kept putting acorns in.

Audrey was "baptised" into her first fair. Just kidding, we didn't really dip her in.

Before we left, papa picked up a deep fried snickers bad. It's like someone stuffed a pancake with a molten candy bar and put it on a stick. Pure heaven. We enjoyed some great sausages and chicken wraps. but mama was really upset when she saw what she really wanted- a barbecue sundae. Here's what it had- bottom layer of backed beans, second layer of cole slaw and the top layer was delicious Lexington style barbecue. Too bad we already ate. Then she was double disappointed when she saw the same booth sold deep fried butter. We're not sure how it worked, but loved the sign that said, "Set your heart a flutter, come try our deepr fried butter." Were they talking about how good it was, or the instant heart attack served on a stick? Next year, we promise.

Pumpkin Fest- June.

On Saturday morning, we headed to Winston to meet up with Gracie and Audrey. First on our agenda was a trip to the "Pumpkin Church," a church that fills its front yard up with thousands of pumpkins to sell and hold a mini festival each October.
They had some great activities this year. Grace and Henry picked out pumpkins to paint.

It took hours for Henry's pumpkin to dry. Luckily we got it in the van without any paint smearing.

This isn't quite what mama wanted when she asked for a nice picture by the pumpkins.

This is the closest we got to a good picture. My sunglasses are on because I cried the whole time.

Audge got her face painted to look like a kitty and was pretty cute.

Another awesome craft they had was decorating foam picture frames with stickers and glue. There was even a guy there with a printer who printed out a picture for your frame straight from our memory card! This was the shot that we picked for our frames.

Mish mash- Henry.

On Friday morning, it was my turn to take snacks to school. Mama made banana muffins for my whole class. (She impressed everyone by making 2 loaves of bread, 12 regular muffins and 72 mini muffins.) The best part of taking in snacks is that I got to be line-leader for the whole day. I got to take my class to the library, back to my classroom and outside after school. It was the best!
June and I snuggled up on the chair to watch a little Dinosaur Train. Guess what it's about? Best. Show. Ever.

Thursday night was pancake night. Mama didn't want me to help this week because I was coughing every 1.2 seconds. So she whipped up this German Apple Puff Pancake. We all agreed that the presentation was spectacular, but I requested "Please no more oven pancakes."

On Friday night, we drove up to Greensboro because mama and papa's college friends were down visiting from Rhode Island. We all squeezed into Mister Paul and Miss Susan's tiny little apartment for the night. Mama says the best part about having kids is that you get first dis on the bedroom and are the only one who doesn't have to sleep on an air mattress! Mister Paul actually thought that I'd be sleeping in the bed until mama and papa quickly told everyone I'd be sleeping on the floor in my sleeping bag.

Three wild and crazy guys. We were so happy to see Mister Zac and Miss Liz and can't wait til all four "601 guys" are reunited at our house in 4 weeks for their manly backwoods camping weekend.

The President's Box- Henry.

On Tuesday night, Clemson hosted a new faculty dinner in the President's Box of the football stadium. Complete with cheerleaders, the brass section of the band, and the mascot. We took the camera, but forgot to take any pictures of us looking over Death Valley.
But here's a shot of us eating cake (it was orange, of course).

June really liked hers and seems to have left the party with quite a reputation as the little girl who stands on chairs, makes a huge mess of cake, then tries to jump off the top row of seats in the box overlooking the field.

She's also the little girl who showed up with pants under her dress and a Dinoco tattoo on her arm.

It was so cold this morning (55 degrees! We are getting soft.) that mama decided Junie needed some tights on under her dress. Poor Juner's legs re so scrawny, she didn't fill out these tights too well. Mama says saggy tights reminds her of a Ramona Quimby book she read when she was little.

And what's with that big face bruise? On Monday night, June's face got on the wrong end of my plastic baseball bat. When mama and papa asked me what happened, I tried to cover by telling them that a ladder fell on Juner's face. Turns out I got in much more trouble for lying than I would have gotten for telling them I hit her on accident.

Too bad the little camera is dead, because this would have made a good video. June and I got the tunnel out today and made a game of crawling through then jumping on the tunnel when someone else is in it.
We thought it was pretty funny.

Who Dey?!?!?!-Henry.

Tonight, the Bengals played the 4:15 game versus the Steelers. Since not many games are at 4:15, we were lucky enough to be able to watch it on the tv at home!
Mama and Papa displayed their exemplary parenting skills by letting us do whatever we wanted during the game. I watched with papa for a while, but Henry learned how to use the mouse on the computer and we spent the rest of the first half watching "Dinosaur Train" videos and games on PBSKids.org.

The Bengals didn't play very well in the first half and were down 13-0 before they even had a play with positive yards. Mama was pretty worried.
Mama threw a bunch of food on the table during halftime and left us to our devices during the third quarter. Mama gave June our new favorite special treat- tiny little pretzel sticks to dip in yogurt. Why hadn't she thought of this before?
I refused to eat my lima beans and spent most of my supper being goofy.

The fourth quarter was great! The Bengals came back to win with only a minute to go! Mama and Papa screamed a lot and we jumped around with them. June stood on the chair calling the touchdown and jumping up and down. After the game was over, we were wound up and I asked papa if we could watch more football and keep yelling.

All in all, it was a great day. Because the only thing better than the Bengals winning is the Steelers losing!

More haircuts-June.

Mama must be getting bored because yesterday I was loading coins into my piggy bank and when I looked up, she'd chopped off half of my hair.

She's been talking about how my hair was getting to long and how she didn't want me to turn into one of those southern girls with long, curled hair and earrings. So she chopped it, but then called Aunt Jenni and cried because she felt guilty for butting my curls.

The good news is that my hair in the back had two layers, and she only cut the long layer, so there is still a little curl in the back.

Papa thinks it's cute, but says the long in the front short in the back look reminds him of Kate Gosselin (or the reverse mullet, as we call it).

We'll wait for Grandma Seibert before we do anything drastic to the front.

Here's a video of Henry acting crazy in the garage.

And here I am doing some spinning. I was really spinning fast and giggling alot before mama got her camera out. Unfortunately, just after this video was taken, we went over to the neighbors house to pet a puppy and mama forgot to pick up her camera from the brick wall. It stayed there overnight and through some rainstorms too. We'll have to wait for a week or so for it to dry out to see if it still works. Luckily, it was the cheap little Nikon we use for videos and not the nice Canon. (Between you and me, Papa and I think she did it on purpose. She's always hated that camera.)

Tired Biggy-Henry.

Yesterday, we decided to take papa back to the lake park for lunch (yeah for Sonic!). We made sure to reserves bread from the enormous grilled cheese sandwiches to throw to the fish. We fed a lot of fish but had to leave because it was just too hot. (90 degrees at the end of September? Come on.) June fell asleep on the way home, and for the first time in Turner kid history, she stayed asleep even as mama got her out of the van, took her upstairs, changed her diaper, and put her to bed.
Mama wanted to get a picture of her passed out on the changing table with one leg handing off, but decided instead to not risk June rolling off while she went to get the camera. Instead, here's a few shots of one tired little buggy asleep in bed.

Poor little kid even slept through her brother hollering downstairs.

And here's a gratuitous thigh shot for Aunt Jenni.

The Lake Park- June.

Thursdays are notoriously bad days for mama. Henry is home from school and he spends most of the day asking the same question over and over and over and then asking mama why papa can't stay home with him instead.

So mama tried her favorite method of combating whine and grumpiness- get out of the house. We decided to try a new park- the Abernathy Waterfront Park. Mama's been looking for it for a while and it's tucked into one of the tiny inlets of the lake and is really close to downtown. It is 8 acres waterfront and boardwalks and docks that line the lake.
Mama lost track of where she was and dressed me in an unseasonably warm corduroy jumper. It was super cute, but it is still 90 degrees down here. Add on the fact that I demanded to wear my hat down over my eyes, and I was a sweaty kid.

Mama convinced Henry to take a picture by bribing him with use of the camera.

He took this picture of mama and me.

He took about 700 pictures of his yellow bug filled with acorns.

A nice shot of the trees. Rumor is this is the earliest trees have started to turn in 10 years. We haven't seen that many trees turning and wish an early fall meant plummeting temperatures as well.
Here's a contemplative shot of me. "June in nature." I was really trying to get off the path so I could gather more acorns in my little hands. Mama has had to make it a point to check my hands before I go to bed because she's been finding tiny things in my bed, such as puzzle pieces, rocks, and shells from Henry's beach box. I literally carry them around for hours and throw a big fit if someone takes them away.
There were swings on one of the docks and we spent some time looking at the lake. Henry spent the first half of the outing asking where the playground was and if we could leave and go to a playground.
Henry took this nice shot of the lake. Many of the docs had ramps down to another dock on the lake where you could tie up your boat or waverunner and head downtown for something to eat.

Five minutes before we left, we finally noticed the fish and ducks mama kept pointing out.

I liked this duck but jumped everytime it quacked. We had a little video of it, but Henry spends the whole time asking to use the camera and demanding a peanut butter jelly and pickle sandwich. Mama sounds very grumpy on it, so we decided not to post it.
