Guest blogger: Papa.
Check this out, everybody! Who Dey?!?
Back to Mama.
I try not to get too preachy on the blog (haha), but sometimes, you have to go out on a limb and write about things you really care about. And in this house, Christmas music is number one for holiday cheer.
If you know me (or have ever had the great fortune of living with me during the holidays), then you know we're not a Bing Crosby type of family. Grandma and Grandpa Seibert had a record player and our Christmas albums were country records from the early eighties. So we listened to Reba McEntire, the Judds, Randy Travis and the Holy Grail of all Christmas music- Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
Nothing says Christmas like going to Tahoe and having an illicit affair with a stranger. Dolly, you always make this a Christmas to remember. And you know it's right when your 5-year-old niece calls you up to sing about a "fast talking lover and slow burning wood." I just watched this video three times in a row and am ready to declare this the best Christmas song EVER.
My next favorite is "Christmas Without You," a song about being away from you're love at Christmas. If I was stranded in England during WWII, I hope I'd find Kenny there. Plus, this video has my favorite dance scene ever.
As the holidays roll on, sometimes Kenny and Dolly can't keep the spirit alive all by themselves. That's when you have to pull out the big guns. Brandon is generally supportive of my weird Christmas tastes, but does draw the line at a few songs.
Nothing is better than a Oak Ridge Boys christmas song. This one features the Boys when they still had long hair. I don't know why Brandon doesn't like them.
And if I really want to get happy (and bug Brandon at the same time), I turn on old Kenny Loggins. His curly hair and flowy blouse are enough to make me happy.
If all this flowing hair on men isn't enough to get you back into spirit, you can check my posts linked here from the last two Christmases. I guarantee it will be the most rewarding thing you've done all day, if not all month, year, or decade for that matter.
Mama shares her childhood in song
Mama complains that Don Henley and Bruce Springstein should be banned from Christmas
Two more Kenny and Dolly videos
Kenny and Dolly in Polka!
Aunt Jenni, if this doesn't get you back in the Christmas spirit, there's nothing you can do. Maybe you haven't been getting you fill of Peyton Manning and the Colts this fall.
And confidential to Miss Leah: I've been thinking about it and I think I threw away your Jewel Christmas CD 7 years ago. It was for your own good.
