Thanksgiving Day- Henry.

We didn't take many pictures on Thanksgiving Day. Mostly because mama is the chief photographer and she spent most of the day in the kitchen.

I wish we would have taken a picture of the whole spread, but here's the turkey. It was probably the best turkey she's ever made, thanks mostly to the fact that she soaked it overnight in her Uncle Jim's secret marinade (to which she added extra beer). The menu also included a ham, homemade mashed potatoes, Gram's sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry jello, and some awesome orange peels filled with a sweet potato custard and topped with sweet potatoes and marshmallows that were made by Mister Andy and Miss Christina, who drove all the way down from Charlotte to spend the day with us. Look closer and you can see the massive amount of sweets that Grams and Aunt Molly brought. The entire buffet was covered in sweets and there was so much that the apple pie and pumpkin pie are still mostly whole.

We borrowed our neighbors folding tables and managed to clear out the toy room enough to set up a long dinner table. It was a great meal with lots of good company- or so mama says. I took one look at everything and declared I didn't like it. So I spent Thanksgiving Dinner watching Thomas the Tank Engine, which was more enjoyable for all of us.

Sadie found the jack-in-the-box, which is more of a lion-on-pajamas-in-a-box. This is another toy June is scared of, but loves to be scared by. Here's a video of her wincing til it popped out. Luckily, Miss Christina was there for a good cuddle.

Since all of the kids either slept or watched videos during Thanksgiving dinner, they weren't sluggish for the rest of the day. Things got fun and LOUD when we started chasing each other around. Sadie and I really went fast and June did her best to keep up.

We visited a drive through Christmas display before bed. Then we got in our jams when we got home for a movie night with Aunt Girl. A great end to a great day.

Birthday night- June.

On Wednesday night, we celebrated two birthdays. Sadie turned 2 on November 12 and Henry turns 4 on December 2.
All of us kids lined up for the big event.

This video captures some of the chaos (we keep using that word a lot). The best part is at the beginning when Henry tries putting the traditional birthday hat on Sadie. Then June just tried to get some of the attention.

Once the presents started, it was hard to keep up with all the craziness.

Aunt Girl got Sadie this pretty doll that played music.
I had my whole arm up inside the package trying to get it out.

Having two birthdays was killing Gram's sense of equality, so of course she brought a little present for me too. It's the dinosaur and Buzz Lightyear for Toy Story. Plus, they were very small so I can carry them around with me.

Mama had plans to make a cake for the birthdays, but Aunt Molly brought this cheesecake (plus about 6 dozen cookies!). Our roman numerals denoted Sadie and Henry's ages.

Mama gave us good directions as to which candles Henry was allowed to blow out.

We sang the birthday song and were ready to eat some cheesecake!

Bring on the cake!!
Sadie likes it!

Then Grams said she had a special present for Henry in the garage. A new big boy two-wheel bike. Listen closely and you can hear mama's biggest embarrassment of the week. Upon seeing the bike, Henry turned to grams and said "But I told you to buy me a race track for my cars." Sigh.

But despite the disappointment of Gram's buying the wrong present, Henry LOVES his new bike.

He rode it around the garage for about 45 minutes until mama said he had to go to bed.

I chased after him with the lawn mower. We both wore our helmets, though I prefer mine backwards.

Then Henry tried out his new bouncing ball. This was the best birthday ever!

Before bed, mama pulled out our new Thanksgiving jammies. Henry's say "Who are you calling a turkey?"

I didn't want to pose, but mine say "Everyone is thankful for me!"

Parsons Thanksgiving Invasion-June.

Mama has had us cleaning all week in preparation for our big Thanksgiving week.

We had a few minutes to enjoy our spotless house before the chaos started.
I love the Christmas decorations- especially this little snowman that used to belong to my GG back when Grams and Aunt Molly were little. It normally lights up, but mama took the cord out so I could play with it, give it hugs, and practice my new favorite word- "Cheese."

Aunt Molly and Uncle Michael came on Tuesday night. Henry charmed them with a very loud tour of our house and we all went out to eat. Surprisingly enough, we were both pretty good through all of supper. Henry especially is fun to eat out with, as long as there are markers and a coloring book.

Uncle Adam, Aunt Katie, and Sadie rolled in at about 3 am on Wednesday morning. And Aunt Girl and Grams got here around 2 pm.

The weather was so nice, we all played outside most of the day.

Sadie liked our slide.

For the first time ever, Henry refused to be pushed and finally figured out how to pump his legs on a swing.

He was nice enough to give me a push.

Our slide is pretty steep, so Grams was there to slow us down if we needed it.

Henry sat at the top hogging the slide.

I tried to slide rocks down the slide. I managed to sneak a rock and an acorn inside and am still playing with them.

Here's me in my awesome outfit. I wear my rain boots most days because I can put them on myself and am usually waiting by the door to get outside.

Henry and Aunt Girl tried to talk Sadie into a swing ride.

...while I ran around the yard, hoping for someone to chase me.

Sadie let Henry push her while the adults stood around and talked.

Aunt Girl fell victim to my charm and agreed to run around the yard tickling me.

We had so much fun outside that we decided to move supper out. How lucky are we to be eating outside in late November? We set up some tables in the garage and grilled out some sausages. Then we settled down for our first meal of overindulgence this week.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas- June.

Aunt Jenni has been calling mama and talking about the Christmas music they are already playing on the radio in Indiana. Add on all the Christmas commercials on the TV and the fact that we've already got most of our Christmas shopping done (yeah!), and you knew it was just a matter of days before mama succumbed to the pressure and got out the Christmas stuff.

She's always got a good excuse about us being gone for so long over Christmas and how if we waited until all our guests were gone, we'd only be able to enjoy our tree for 2 weeks. I think the real reason might be that she's ready to clean all of the new ornaments she's been hoarding all year out of her dresser drawer.
She and papa got all the boxes out of the attic (hooray again for a walk-in attic) and mama got to work setting up the tree. It's surprising how fast everything goes up when you actually have room to unpack it. It was almost enjoyable save for Henry hounding mama about putting up the tree lights NOW! I played with my June doll and tried to get this hat ornament to stay on her head.

She got the tree up before lunch and mama put the lights on during our nap. So when we woke up, it was finally time to start hanging ornaments. Henry employed the "how many can I fit on one branch method."

Papa had to go to work (boo for Sunday faculty meetings- during the Bengals game, no less), so mama had to contend with two very excited kids and literally boxes and boxes of ornaments being torn open. We glad to announce that no ornaments were irreparably damaged during the melee. But everyone is getting super glue in their stocking to replace the stock we went through yesterday. We found our stegosaurus' tail under the couch last night.

If you have to decorate a tree with only kids around, Henry is the best kid to have. He got excited about EVERY ornament.

He was a little nervous that the Grinch might come steal our tree. Papa thinks it's funny that he doesn't care much about a jovial, benevolent man who brings presents to good girls and boys, but instead likes the mean green guy who will take your presents unless you understand the real spirit of Christmas. Mama thinks maybe it is because it is more in line with the rule of this house anyway.

After we finished the big tree in the toy room, we moved on to the little tree in the office. Mama had put yellow lights on it, but Henry found left over red lights and insisted that we use all the lights. So now we have a tribute to the Kansas City Chiefs in our office. (Way to go beating the Steelers!) Coincidentally, mama had left over Ikea ornaments to decorate the tree that are red and gold, so it works. Henry insisted that the trees were light enough and turned off all the lights in the house. I had a good time running around the house in the dark.

While we decorated, mama was trying to keep up with the Bengals game, so we could do whatever we wanted. We had a Christmas sing-a-long on the guitar.

And I kept myself happy climbing over two chairs.
And sliding down the side. It kept me busy for at least 2 failed red-zone attempts by the Bengals.

When we were done, mama insisted on trying to get a picture of us in front of the tree. (I'm wearing a vintage dress from the mama collection.)

An low and behold, we actually got a good picture! For the first time in her life, I sat still and even said "Cheese" and smiled nicely for a picture! Maybe it's because I'm starting to understand that a good picture usually means a piece of candy from the Halloween stash. Or more likely, I'm afraid if I don't sit still, the Grinch might come and take our tree.

Raking leaves- Junie.

Yesterday was a beautiful fall day, and despite mama's insistence that we get some cleaning done in anticipation of the Parsons Thanksgiving Invasion, we all headed outside to enjoy the weather. (It should be noted that we consider it beautiful because it was only 60 degrees.)
Papa started raking and I helped out by stuffing some leaves into this pitcher.

Henry jumped into the big pile and promptly lost his shoe. Mama and papa had to spread all the leaves out and it took 10 minutes to find it.

The strong man in action.

Mama wanted a picture of us in the leaves, but I didn't like it.

I prefer a cuddle instead.

Mama and her kids.

Hey, stop taking my picture.

What? You'll give me candy if I smile?

This shot cost papa two tootsie rolls. And it should be noted that after raking yesterday, the front yard is totally covered in leaves again.
