You probably know that our Georgiana is named after her great-grandmother, Georgiana Wagner. And part of the reason for our trip up north was so that the two Georgianas could meet while the little one was still little.
Great Grandma was very happy to meet her namesake.
On our visit, we learned that great grandma's father, James Hejl, was expecting a boy for his first child. And he was going to name him George. When he received a daughter instead, they kept George and tacked on Anna, after great grandma's mother Anna.
Mama remembers that Grandpa Wagner used to call Grandma "George" and so we call our baby George, too. Grandma's parents immigrated from (then) Czechoslovakia and Grandma taught us that Georgiana is "Jirina" in Czech. The pronunciation for that is roughly "Ya-jin-na." And we can call her "Jirinka" for a pet name.
Grandma showed us her garden, which she called modest, but beat mama's hands down and was easily 10 times the size. Mama snagged some ground cherries in the hopes of propagating them down south. To this day, Grandma is the only one we know that grows them.
Our friend, Miss Elizabeth, was also in town and help Juner maneuver the field with her pretty dress on and dolly in tow.
June eventually got down to the business of picking broccoli.
All three Turner great grandkids pose with their great grandma. Thanks for having us!
